The name Maserati won the surname of their creators - the Maserati brothers. There were six people - Alfieri, Bindo, Mario Ernesto, Ettore and Carlo (Alfieri, Bindo, Mario, Ernesto, Ettore, and Carlo). They live at the turn of 19-20 centuries in the Italian city of Bologna (Bologna). All but Mario was a passionate lover of art, related to one degree or another with the construction of vehicles. However, the artist Mario left in the history of the company's future no less bright trace - he painted the famous Trident logo. According to the official legend, trident, he borrowed from the statue of Neptune that to this day stands on one of the squares of Bologna. However, there is also an unofficial legend, according to which the trident symbolizes the three brothers who founded the company - Alfieri, Ettore and Ernesto (Bindo joined later, after Alfer death in 1932); a grain of truth in it, but still such a theory seems obviously far-fetched.
The fate of each of the brothers (except for Mario, perhaps) deserves a separate book. They have all left a very bright trace in the development of vehicles that run on a fairly high positions in well-known in those years, the companies have successfully participated in racing. Unfortunately, Carlo has not lived up to the birth of Maserati in the usual roles, died in 1910 of tuberculosis.
And in 1914, Alfieri (often called spiritual successor to Carlo) founded a small company producing automotive engines, which he called the Società Anonima Officine Alfieri Maserati. It is on this basis and will be born in the future legendary company.
Maserati official date of birth is April 25, 1926, when in a car race Targa Florio (Targa Florio) participated constructed brothers Tipo 26 car with a trident on the bonnet. Behind the wheel of his own sitting Alpher. Subsequent successful performance of this miracle and prompted the brothers to the idea closer look at the production of sports cars. What they do, and very successfully. Maserati cars shone in racing, they set speed records, appeared in the brand fans.
In 1937, the company buys the family Orsi (Orsi). The company moved to Modena (Modena), where to this day it has its headquarters. Maserati brothers stayed in Bologna and until 1948 worked for the company as chief engineer. Later they founded a new company - OSCA, which is engaged in production of racing cars and has not reached any appreciable success.
Maserati cars were, in fact, the only one who could challenge in the race track cars Mersedes - the famous German automaker in the years generously sponsored by the Nazi government that only wants to win and did not stint on money. But, thanks to vehicles with a trident, it was not always possible.
Maserati cars were, in fact, the only one who could challenge in the race track cars Mersedes - the famous German automaker in the years generously sponsored by the Nazi government that only wants to win and did not stint on money. But, thanks to vehicles with a trident, it was not always possible.During the Second World War, Maserati factories switched to the production of products for the front - engines and spare parts. At the end of the war to return to their previous products could quite easily. Maserati Cars zablestali again on the racetrack.
In 1968, the company acquired a Citroën. At the same time, members of the Orsi family remained on the board. The French were interested, first of all, the technical achievements of the Italians. But they did not throw Maserati - in the next five years, there are many luxury models, which enjoyed great popularity. The company grew slowly until the oil crisis broke out, completely perecherknuvshy all plans in 1973. Gluttonous sports cars hit first and hardest. In 1975, Maserati was declared bankrupt. By that time, Citroën have joined the PSA Peugeot Citroën and the new management has decided to liquidate the Italian company.
Maserati was saved thanks to pressure from the trade unions and public bodies. Saving company, they were intended to preserve jobs for the people working on it. In 1975, Maserati buys a well-known Argentine rider Alejandro De Tomaso (Alejandro de Tomaso), known also as the founder of De Tomaso Modena SpA. He continued to produce sports cars. But these were not monsters, devouring dozens of liters per hundred kilometers, and small nimble model, capable of developing high speeds. Especially famous Biturbo model, kept in different variations in production right up to the end of the 20th century. De Tomaso actions helped the company stay afloat. However, not all perceived Maserati in a new role.
In 1993, the company once again changes the owner. At this time, it acquires the Italian company Fiat Auto. The new owner has invested huge sums in the development of the Maserati, which has now begun for the Renaissance. There was a complete reorganization of the company that went only benefit.
But this change of ownership has not ended - in July 1997, Fiat sold a 50% stake in its longtime rival Maserati - Ferrari, which is part of the financial industrial enterprise FIAT Group. And since 1999, Ferrari is completely captured the Maserati. And hardly was again brought it to bankruptcy.
So in 2005, suffering Maserati again changed hands. This time she went to the Alfa Romeo management, which is also part of the FIAT Group. Under the direction of the company's business went well - the first time in many years, Maserati has become profitable.
